Leading car manufacturer Ford has announced plans to develop a car that drives itself during traffic jams.The innovative new vehicle allows drivers to simply sit back and relax whilst stuck in stressful traffic jams.
The car, which Ford is currently creating prototypes of, will feature a new ‘Traffic Jam Assist’ system where the vehicle follows voice commands to determine whether the driver would like to hand control over to the car when it reaches a traffic jam. Should the driver opt to relinquish control of the car, the vehicle will use camera and radar features to scan the road ahead for other vehicles, breaking and accelerating accordingly when in high volumes of traffic.
The technology can allegedly break to stop a collision when the cars in front are too slow or slow down to meet speeds and accelerate to keep up with vehicles in front. Collecting information from the surrounding cars and monitoring the white lines marking the lanes, the car effectively takes control during traffic jams.
